1. Read about the social contract
2. Describe the principles of democracy
3. List the positives and negatives of a confederate and federal system
4. List why the US is interdependent with the rest of the world

Ø Pass out social contract handout – read – discuss
Ø Read principles of democracy – discuss
Ø Lecture – interdependence
Ø Define and compare confederate with federal systems
Friday 8/22
Objective: Students will:
1. List the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation
2. Describe the 3 main compromises during the Constitutional Convention
3. Identify the Anti-federalists and Federalists as well as their main arguments
4. Complete an assessment on chapter 1
Ø Daily News:
Ø Chapter 1 quiz
Ø Discuss the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation
Ø In notes – describe the three compromises
Ø Contrast the Anti-federalists and Federalists (identify and compare to today)

2. Complete an assessment on Chapter 2
3. Identify the Bill of Rights

1. Explain the formal amendment process
2. List and explain the many informal amendment processes
3. Complete a role playing simulation

Ø Turn-in Amendment proposals
Ø PP lecture on the formal amendment process
Ø In-notes, list and give examples of the ways the Constitution is informally amended
Ø Role playing game using amendment proposals to try and pass an amendment
Friday 8/29

2. Describe federalism
3. List the state and federal powers
4. Explain the relationships between the states
